Frolicking Fox Shirt Dress

Today I am sharing with you the shirt dress that I made to go under Emmie's Fall Fox Coat. The fabric is a stunning rayon print that I got at Dongdaemun in Seoul. I got it for $4.00 a yard, and it is OH MY GOODNESS yummy.  This dress is part of my Fall line of Emmie's school clothes.
The dress closes at the front and wrists with 21 amber colored plastic buttons also from Dongdaemun for .10 cents a piece.
I made the body loose and full, with a soft elastic waist that keeps her feeling flowy and comfy.
This picture kills me because of the trash, I thought about getting rid of it, but trash in the streets is so Korean, I kept it for this one shot (There are very few to no public garbage cans on the streets in Korea, so there is a TON of trash.)
The collar has a ruffle all the way around the edge, I used my rolled hem foot to finish the edge of the ruffle, so it is a very tiny sewn edge. I elected not to button the collar all the way up to the top, since I wanted it loose around her neck, and if there is a button she will button it.
The dress is buttoned all the way down the front, with the most delicious honey amber colored plastic buttons. There is a ruffle on either side of the button placket too; I always squish my ruffles flat with an iron, since I prefer them flatter.
The velvet bow is not only to be a lovely pop of color (the orange is there to pop its complimentary color of blue in the little foxes) but also because I wanted to take the pressure of the elastic off of the two buttons on the waistband. They weren't really pulling, but it eventually could stress the buttons, and the bow helps with that.
The wrist also sports a ruffle.
Emmie's leggings are made of a lovely soft knit, also from Dongdaemun, I just lay a pair of her leggings on top of my fabric, and added a fold over yoga pant waist to the top.

The back of the neck also has some gathering making it soft and flowy through the shoulders, so her movement isn't hindered at all. The whole dress feels like pajamas actually, and I am planning on going back to Dondaemun for more of this rayon fabric in other colors and styles, I CANNOT say enough about how soft it is, and a dream to work with (some may be coming a lucky follower's way, hint, hint)

Anyway, here's the whole dress again,
and with the coat,

    1. Thanks Rachel! I keep thinking I need to make myself some of these leggings, they are so comfy, except my pins wouldn't look nearly as skinny as Emmie's do!

  3. I LOVE this whole outfit. I'm not good enough at sewing to make this whole thing for myself, but I REALLY wish I could. If you ever decide to make any of these pieces and sell them, I'm the first taker!!

  9. what a stunningly gorgeous outfit! That orange wool fabric of the jacket is so amazing, and the two pieces look so great together. Can't believe you drafted these patterns yourself . . . please consider selling pattern pdfs:)

    1. thanks Lucinda! I've thought about the pattern thing, except I am practically computer illiterate beyond surfing the internet and blogging, I wouldn't even know where to begin! I guess there must be software out there somewhere I could learn, but I will have to try to see if I can find it, and teach this old dog a new trick!

  10. Just lovely I love the complementary colors.. Do you live in Korea? When I was in Japan it was the opposite with regards to trash. I didn't see one piece although there are very few trashcans.

    1. Justine, thanks! Yes I live in Korea (I'm a new import, only 3 months into a 3 year tour with my hunny in the USAF) I've heard that Japan is spotless, Korea is MUCH less so, there is trash everywhere, and there are almost no public trash cans. Emmie is always saying "Korea is besmirching my nose" because there are some pretty intense smells, and people use trash and discarded things to build walls around their property. The people here are very friendly though, and even though I can't yet speak the language, people try very hard to help us figure things out!
